The Quicksilver Series Book 2
The story opens straight after Eric left Jane at the altar. I never understood why Jane’s dad, the head of a secret society of powerful men, cared about stopping one of his fellow society members from marrying his daughter. A daughter he never had anything to do with during her entire life.
He treated Jane’s mother like a whore, and let another man raise his child as their own. Now he suddenly suggests Eric crossed a line by trying to marry Jane? Eric is a billionaire, head of one of the richest, most powerful families in America. Why does he care what this guy says? So, I started, hoping to get answers.
Again there’s loads of short flashbacks which drew me out of the story and slowed the momentum of the plot. It was particularly annoying when it was a flashback with text from the first book.
Eric and Jane immediately revert to their back and forth, lashing out at each other in an attempt to protect themselves and hiding their pain behind snarky and cruel jabs. Ever pragmatic Jane can’t understand it: “How could I still love someone I hated this much? How could I hate someone I loved so intensely?”
The humour in this is good throughout, especially the Thanksgiving dinner, despite being laced with tension. Jane has some great one-liners like: “My biological father is basically Darth Vader with a nice suit.”
It feel triumphant when they finally stand together to fight against Jane’s dad. Eric accepts his position and the power it gives him. Together they are a force to be reckoned with.
While the plot is fast paced, it runs alongside a good love story and is packed with hot scenes. Jane and Eric really are perfect for each other, they offer mutual support and see beneath the facade they each show to others.
Some of my questions were answered, but the reasoning behind the actions of Jane’s dad are still a bit of a mystery. It ends on another cliffhanger and I can’t wait to get into the final book.
