Yes, 17th July is officially World Emoji Day. I don’t know when this became an international day of celebration. Iâll admit, for all things technological, Iâm a late adopter and way behind the times.
It took me a while to get used to them, but I use emojis now. For an introvert, theyâre an excellent way of communicating without having to spend too much time on the communicating part. Emojis have become a language of their own and some people like to communicate using emojis alone.
Celebrate World Emoji Day
Apparently, World Emoji Day celebrations are a big thing. You can dress up as your favourite emoji, and vote in the annual World Emoji Awards! I kid you not, thereâs even a lifetime achievement award for emojis that we continue to rely on year in and year out.
Last yearâs winners included:
đ„č (the face holding back tears) â Most Popular New Emoji
đ« (melting face) â the emoji that best represented the year
â€ïž (red heart) â got the Lifetime Achievement Award.
My Nominations for 2023
Not wishing to be left out this year, Iâll join in with my nominations. (Please note, I will not be dressing up as an emoji for anyone.)
Most popular new emoji â I don’t know whatâs new and whatâs not really. My most used emoji is đ. (Come on, no oneâs surprised by that one.)
Best emoji to represent my year â well, thatâs easy đ„±.
My Lifetime Achievement Award goes to đ„ł. Itâs nice to celebrate the good stuff.

According to The Knowledge, a Canadian judge ruled that when a grain dealer texted a photo of a signed contract to a farmer and received the thumbs-up emoji in response, it constituted a legal agreement. The farmer, who never signed the contract or sent the grain, was forced to pay $61,000.
So, watch what youâre doing with those emojis.
I love playing the game where you guess the film title from the emojis. Oh, Iâve just remembered there was also an emoji movie, with the imaginative title, The Emoji Movie. Iâve not seen it, but I believe Sir Patrick Stewart – thespian, Captain Picard, Professor Xavier, and a fellow Yorkshire person – was part of it. He voiced the… erm… đ©(Poop).đ€
Happy World Emoji Day! đ„ł
I hope youâve enjoyed this light-hearted poke at the much-loved part of modern life. Whatâs your favourite or most-used emoji? Before I go, what on earth does this emoji mean đ«„?
My favourite is the pile of poo
