My Review: “Dirty Like Me” by Jaine Diamond

A Dirty Rockstar Romance #1

Girl next door and wannabe artist, Katie Bloom, gets a job on a music video for rockstar Jessie Mayes.

In what is one of the steamiest scenes I’ve read, they have to simulate a heavy make out session. The video is such a success that Jesse pays her to be his fake girlfriend while he’s on tour.

The novel is an easy read, despite the occasional awkward sentence. The plot is well paced. The sizzling tension keeps the pages turning and is helped along by the likeable characters.

Jesse is the typical rockstar, not a total jerk, but used to getting what he wants. He is a little put out that he has to work harder to get Katie to agree to his arrangement.

I found Katie really relatable. She is a little bedazzled by his rockstar status, but she’s not keen to surrender to it. She’s been hurt in the past and she’s lacking in self confidence. Katie is just trying to protect herself, get through this job, and come out the other side in one piece. Odds on that’s not going to happen.

Obviously, feelings start to get involved and Katie has a major problem, as she succinctly puts it:

“He loved me helping him sell his music. He just didn’t love me.”

My only issue with the novel was I wasn’t particularly happy about the ending. Jesse basically does the typical rich boyfriend thing. Coincidentally, his band needs an artist for their new artwork, and guess who’s got the job? So, he uses his money and pays for her to become an artist. It just feels like a let down after Katie said she wanted to get her life back herself. He says she has talent and he believes in her. Great, that’s what any decent boyfriend should say, but I would have just preferred her to do it on her own with his moral, rather than financial support.
