Waylon University Book 1
This story reeks of You’ve Got Mail vibes. Except the heroine knew who he was from the beginning really, and the reveal lacked the impact I was hoping for. Maverick Monroe is the college football legend, hoping to go pro, and Delaney Shaw’s a nerd who loves Star Wars, The Princess Bride, and has a soft spot for cats, so it’s also an opposites attract trope.
However, it turns out they’re not that different. The build up of their relationship through texts while she doesn’t know for definite who he is, even though she suspects, is nice to read. The build up is so full of feels it makes the steamy scenes even better.
There’s plenty of angst too, mainly caused by the issues in Maverick’s life. He’s got so much going on: trying his best to take care of his sister, win over Delaney, and become a pro footballer. The reader is on tenterhooks most of the time, waiting for it all to fall apart.
I’ve struggled finding much to write about. I enjoyed the book, but there was something missing and I don’t know what. There’s an adorable couple, great build up of tension, some nice steamy scenes, a good dose of angst, and a nice resolution for the HEA. I’ve given it four stars because it just didn’t quite hit every spot for me.
