Book 2, The Maiden Lane Series
The very respectable Lady Hero Batten, saves Lord Griffin Reading from being discovered in flagrante delicto …a compromising position…oh, you know what I mean, he was banging another man’s wife at Hero’s engagement ball.
Thoroughly repulsed by his ungentlemanly behaviour, Hero is happy that she will not have to encounter the charming rake again. That is, until he is introduced to her later that evening as her fiancés brother.
Griffin doesn’t give a damn about what polite society thinks about him. He believes perfect Lady Hero will make an ideal wife for his stiff and priggish brother.
I love the instant dislike turns to attraction element. Hero and Griffin are pros at using drtheir dislike of each other to disguise their attraction. However, it does not take long for their attraction to overcome them both. I love their little arguments and the nicknames they give each other. It’s very endearing.
Here’s a swoon worthy quote when Griffin reveals how he feels about Hero:
“I’ve lived too long without bread or wine, crawling desperate in a lonely, barren desert, and you, my darling, Lady Perfect, are manna sent directly from heaven above.”
As well as Hero’s engagement there’s a lot that prevents them being together. The scene with the curtain between them is just lovely. It’s heartfelt and symbolic of the things keeping them apart.
This is a very good read with an engaging plot, loveable characters and plenty of romantic tension and heat. The sub plots are also running along in the background, with clues about later books in the series. I will definitely read on.
