Grayson, Book 1
Sophia Cole dropped out of college to care for her cancer stricken mother and now works non-stop to pay for her mother’s medical expenses.
One day, she receives a cheque from a charitable foundation for enough money to cover a new cancer treatment that saves her mother’s life. A year later, she is summoned to work for millionaire, Jax Grayson. His family’s foundation gave her the money, and he wants her to repay the debt.
Something about the characters makes them really hard to like and I think it’s because they’re all a bit shallow. They need more depth. Sophia is a bit selfish once her mother recovers and doesn’t seem to understand her mother’s need to grasp life by the horns and live it. I also found her a bit hypocritical. She was disparaging about Jax’s sister getting pregnant, then goes on to have unprotected sex with Jax in the very next scene. Guess what happens after that?
On top of that we have timeline inconsistencies and an unnecessary subplot with an ex that all gets conveniently wrapped up within a two page epilogue.
This wasn’t a bad read, but I have to say it was all a bit predictable. That’s saying something for a romance novel. I’m afraid I didn’t get the feels for it, and I’m not inclined to read any more in the series.
