A Demonica Novel
I stumbled upon this book in my efforts to find something different to read. Paranormal fantasy is not my usual go to, but I was willing to try anything to help me get back into reading. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with this, the first in (what I have since discovered) a huge series.
Eidolon is a demon. Actually, he’s a sex demon who runs a hospital that treats demons, and is situated beneath the streets of New York. As well as trying to run a hospital, he has to find out who is cutting up demons and selling their organs on the underworld black market, leaving him to try to heal what’s left behind. He also has the little problem that when he reaches his hundredth birthday he will change into a sex-crazed monster. He can feel the change coming, and the only thing to stop it is to find a mate.
To make matters worse a demon’s worst enemy, a human slayer and trained to kill his kind, is brought into his hospital. The only thing is, she’s not as human as she first appears.
Most humans are unaware that demons exist. Tayla Mancuso is part of a secret society of humans that hunt and kill demons, vampires, and werewolves. Tayla has always believed she was fighting on the right side in the battle of good versus evil.
After being injured in a hunt, she wakes up in a demon hospital and meets a hot demon doctor. Tayla’s world is turned upside down as she is forced to realise that good and evil are not as black and white as she has been led to believe.
I have to say I was completely drawn in to the author’s take on heaven and hell. This is packed with demons, angels, werewolves and vampires. If you like any of those things you won’t be disappointed. The author does a great job of blending fantasy with just the right amount of reality to make her creation believable.
I loved the characters. Tayla is a fighter through and through. Not only can she kick some demon ass, she has survived a traumatic childhood. Eidolon is a very primal being, scrubs wearing, alpha male who would make anyone swoon. As he’s a demon who needs sex to survive, you can guarantee there’s plenty of heat as well as some great action scenes.
I will certainly be reading more in this series. I you want fantastical escapism, then I recommend this book.
