Maxim Trevelyn was a playboy, trust fund kid. He didn’t need to work. He had no direction. He enjoyed living the high life. Until his older brother died, and now he’s the Earl of Trevethick.
Alessia Demachi is an Albanian immigrant. She’s escaped from an unwanted betrothal and sex traffickers. Now she works as a cleaner for Maxim.
Maxim is literally Alessia’s knight in shining armour. He sweeps her away to his castle, and I mean that literally too, when she is tracked down by the sex traffickers. He wants her, but after everything she has been through, he knows he also has to protect her from himself. Within one hundred pages he’s gone from man whore to man of conscience.
Alessia is not your feisty modern female. She’s timid, shy, and submissive around males because that how’s she been raised; she feels the need to do as men say, take care of their needs, and never answer back.
The story is written from two different POV. Maxim is first person present. Alessia is third person present and it’s a little disorienting. I presume it’s done because English is Alessia’s second language, and she thinks in her first language, Albanian.
The author’s informal style makes this an easy read. If you like modern damsels in distress and knights who rush in to same them, then this is the book for you.
