I really struggled to get into this novel. The plot and characters felt dull and did not engage me. I was determined to give it a good go, but half way though, the plot was still only plodding along.
There were a couple of things that I think spoiled it for me, and they happened early on. First, the terms of address just didn’t feel right, although I couldn’t say they were incorrect either. The second was the inference that the Welsh language and Scottish language are the same. Both are branches of Gaelic, but, still, very different.
There were also lots of unnecessary POVs that did nothing to enhance the plot, but just seemed like the author’s way of including characters with a lot of backstory from an earlier series.
There were, however, some lovely descriptive passages. The flowery and wordy language was nice to read, but did not move the plot forward.
I’m afraid I had to give up reading. I gave it a good go but the plot did not draw me in and neither did the characters.
