Time for Festive Reading

Yes, itโ€™s that time of year when my social media accounts are overloaded with festive reading suggestions. Now, I am not usually someone whose reading choices are affected by the season. I usually only pick what takes my fancy, and Iโ€™ve only read a handful of festive novels.

This year, however, I feel like getting on board the festive reading waggon. With my poor reading track record this year, I suspect I will struggle, so Iโ€™ve already loaded my library with possible reading material.

Starting with a Classic

I thought Iโ€™d ease my way in by re-reading a classic. Every year I read A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Itโ€™s one of my favourite stories and my copy is rather dog-eared. I love the transformation of miserly old Ebenezer Scrooge; it makes me all warm and fuzzy. Itโ€™s a love I wanted to share with my children, and I bought a suitable version for them which we also enjoyed every Christmas when they were small.

My Festive TBR List

To help me get some festive reading accomplished Iโ€™ve chosen a selection of both historical and contemporary romance. I’ve also picked a short story anthology so I can dip in and out of it when I get the chance.

Iโ€™ve read books by most of these authors before. I know I like their writing style, so Iโ€™m confident Iโ€™ll become immersed in the story. Fingers crossed, Iโ€™ll get plenty of reading done this month. I’ve even thrown in a mystery to add a little variety.

Favourite Festive Reading

Well, A Christmas Carol must be on my list, seeing as I read it every year. Another festive favourite I shared with my children is The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore. We always read this on Christmas Eve before bedtime. I love the illustrations in our copy, and Iโ€™ll probably read it again on Christmas Eve, but I doubt my children will be snuggled up next to me. While sentimental nostalgia wishes I could spend that time with them again, it would just be weird.

As I mentioned earlier, I donโ€™t usually do festive reading, so I donโ€™t have a lot to choose from. A couple of years ago, I read a festive novella by Emily Windsor and enjoyed it. Check out my review here.

Hopefully, Iโ€™ll have more festive reading options to draw from in future. Do you jump on the festive reading bandwagon, and do you have a favourite? Let me know in the comments.
