Attack of the Nerves

I promised to give you an update regarding my busy week, and I’ve been suffering from an attack of the nerves.

I completed the two most pressing tasks, but they left me nervous: the first was my competition submission, and the second was a final proofreading of my short story before sending that to the publisher. Both are done and dusted, but I’ll admit, especially with the short story, I hesitated before clicking send.

This is the first time I’ve sent off my work when I know it will not be coming back to me for any changes. It’s out there now. Someone else will proofread it and the next time I see it, it will be the final product.

The scariest part is that people will read it. My insides are squirming again at just the thought. In the past, I’ve joked with friends about the contradictory feelings that publishing one’s work summons and it’s stupid, I know. As writers, we want people to read our work, but we also don’t want them to because we’re scared no one will like it. Hopefully, I’ll get used to it. I realise it’s impossible to please everyone and I shouldn’t try.

Anyway, my work is now with the publisher. I can’t do anything except wait.

As you’ll have noticed, I researched and wrote my local history post about the Yorkshire Luddites, and I hope you enjoyed it. I also attended the body language webinar every day and completed the exercises, and I’m so pleased I did. I enjoyed the daily sessions and I think they will help me improve my use of body language.

One task was left out, and that was the re-writes for book four in my Men of Trade series. Now I’ve got the tea party story and the competition submission completed, I’ll be able to start on that this week.

I also think I’ve found another couple of potential blogs to join. I’ll do a bit more research on them, and you’re welcome to join me if I hop about again.

Do you have a writing or reading question for me? For example, what’s my favourite romance trope? If you do, ask in the comments and I’ll answer it.
