Ice Planet Barbarians Book 2
I fancied some more mindless escapism and this series is perfect for that.
Raahosh – poor, grumpy Raahosh. He’s lonely and longs for a mate. Raahosh avoids the rest of the tribe when can, but believes finding his mate will give him what he’s always wanted – a family. Raahosh has a scarred face and thinks that’s why Liz initially rejected him. However, his persistence is endearing.
The symbionts inside them both (which Liz hilariously calls her “cootie”) have decided they’re the perfect pair, and I think they made a good choice. Hostile, feisty, and sarcastic Liz is perfect for grumpy Raahosh.
Liz sums up her situation as follows:
“I’m kidnapped by aliens, forced to eke out a living on an ice planet, and now I’m basically married to Mr. Tall, Dark, and Super Pissy.”
Liz is not into the fated mates aspect and sees it as having her choices taken from her. She fights it at every step. She even talks to her “cootie” and tells it off for being too eager to jump him. I chuckled every time. The humour is enhanced by the great banter between them.
Here’s a little snippet, starting with Raahosh:
‘“You say you do not want it. The only thing that says you do not want this is your mouth.”
“It’s allowed to have its say, too.”
“It says plenty,” he comments sourly.
“And see, shit like that is why you don’t get laid.”’
Liz is a bit devious as well as defiant. Nothing gets in the way of what she wants; after she gives in to the mating pull, she wants Raahosh.
My only niggle was some of the repetitive descriptions were unnecessary. As with the first book, there are super hot scenes and plenty of them.
I recommend this series for some spicy, mindless fun… and hot blue aliens.
