Hey, it’s Monday again already and time for my weekly blog post. It’s been a proper Monday, slamming me in the face after a week off from the copywriting job and the fiction writing. I crawled out of bed at 5 am and felt completely lost when I sat at my desk.
I’ve been looking for another blog to hop onto, but I’m not getting anywhere. I’m considering hosting a hop so I can continue to write personal posts like these, because, despite my initial dislike about sharing personal stuff, I’ve grown to really enjoy them. I’m just worried about the time it may take to host, and I’ve barely got time to complete everything that I need to do now.
This week is an excellent example of how I like to add to my stress. My planned tasks for this week included a final proofread of my short story before I send it to the publisher (not due until 15th May so there’s time), a history post to research and write, and I wanted to start on the re-writes for book 4 in my Men of Trade series because I’m way behind with that one.
That seems like enough, but no, last week I entered my first manuscript, The Whitney Heir (book 1 in the Men of Trade series) into a competition (due 21st April). So now, I also have to re-write the original synopsis—because I’ve re-written the opening, edit and proofread the first 3.5 k words.
It doesn’t end there. I’ve also signed up for a workshop about how to use body language in writing. I like to use body language in my writing, but I feel like I keep using the same ones: when they’re embarrassed—they blush; when they’re confused—they blink; when they’re jealous… I have to get out my emotion thesaurus to find some sort of internal reaction to describe it.
I want to learn more about using body language, and hopefully, I’ll be able to source lots of examples and maybe even make up some flashcards, or something, to help vary up my characters’ responses a bit.
The only problem is this workshop is every Monday evening for five weeks at noon PCT. That’s 8 pm in the UK—when I’m exhausted after being on the go for 15 hours and when I normally settle down with a book ready for bedtime.
But all this moaning is pointless, and it’s my fault for signing up for too much. This post will hold me accountable, and I’ll let you know what I have and haven’t achieved next week.
In the meantime, let me know what you think about my plans to host a blog hop. Should I give it a go, or should I answer one of your writing or book-related questions each week instead?
Let me know in the comments.
