My Review: “Brazen and the Beast” by Sarah MacLean

Bareknuckle Bastards Book 2

Lady Henrietta Sedley is desperate to prove to her father and the world that she can run his shipping business better than her brother, or any other man.

Unfortunately, her brother makes the mistake of stealing from the Bareknuckle Bastards, kings of the criminal classes of Covent Garden, and they want their revenge. In order to save her brother, Hattie makes a deal with one of the bastard brothers, Beast. She will repay him what her brother has stolen and in return he will ruin her as part of her plan to take over her father’s business.

Beast, AKA Whit, knows Hattie is protecting her brother and he also knows that her brother is working with his own brother and nemesis, Ewan. He plans to destroy them all to get to Ewan. Ruining Hattie will not be a chore, but as he gets to know her, he must refuse to hold up his end of their bargain. His feelings for her become the weakness Ewan will not hesitate to use against him.

I loved everything about this book. The characters were likeable and the plot was well paced. The tension between Hattie and Whit was sizzling from the very beginning and the love scenes balance the passion and the emotion perfectly.

The final story of the trilogy is set up in the epilogue and I cannot wait to read it, although I am not certain how Ewan’s character can be redeemed at this stage.
