My review: “Hello Stranger” by Lisa Kleypas

Book 4 in The Ravenels Series

I was really looking forward to reading the story of these two characters who we first meet in the second book, “Marrying Winterborne”. Dr Garrett Gibson is the only licensed female doctor in England and Ethan Ransom is a former police detective and now a rumoured assassin.  Ethan is also the half brother of Casandra and Pandora Ravenel.

Garrett was always drawn to Ethan in the earlier novels but the more time she spends with him, the more her attraction grows.

“The stunning brightness of his eyes – blue from across the room – sparked an unfamiliar but pleasant tingling high up under her ribs, like delicately tightening knots.”

Garrett is a very intelligent, trail-blazing female and is unconventional for the time. I loved her instantly. It is wonderful to have a heroine who is involved in a practical profession.

Ethan turns out to be a spy for the Home Office, but is still shrouded in mystery. He’s not an ordinary spy, but a spy of the James Bond vintage; skilled in seduction, combat, and espionage. Plus, he’s Irish, which makes him even more swoon worthy. It seems I’m a sucker for endearments in native tongues.

Boy, does he have a silver tongue too. He comes out with some of the best lines.

“The love I have for you – I feel it, right here. My heart beats faster for you all on its own. Nothing tells it to do that.”

This book has a great plot; there’s plenty of excitement with a healthy dose of good humour. Garrett is amusing with her no nonsense, matter of fact attitude to anatomy and bodily functions, even when they are getting it on!

As usual, Kleypas’s attention to detail makes it easy for the reader to feel immersed in the story and the time period. I really didn’t want it to end.
