My Review: “Married by Morning” by Lisa Kleypas

The Hathaways Book 4

Leo Hathaway and his sisters’ governess, Catherine Marks, have been in denial and lusting after each other since book 2. Now we finally get them together. To say these two love to rub each other the wrong way is an understatement. I can’t wait until they start rubbing each other the right way. (Urgh, that sounds so much like something crass Leo himself would say.)

Leo is the epitome of the loveable rogue with his irreverent and self-deprecating sense of humour. I can’t help but love him and he’s come so far from the heartbroken, self-destructive man he was in book one, following the death of his fiancé.

Catherine takes the term straight laced to the extreme, but she does it to distance herself from others. She’s hiding something and Leo is determined to discover all her secrets.

So, I’ve noticed something with a few of this author’s books. It’s all great, lovely storytelling, great characters, witty banter and humour, nicely paced plot, plenty of romance and heat, then at about the three quarters mark, the pace lags and things become stale. When things should be building towards a climactic high, in terms of “how are they going to overcome this to get their happy ending”, all I’m feeling is a bit bored.

By the end of this book, I was feeling the same way as I have for the last few in this series. The book started well and was full of promise with the tension between the characters, yet it fizzled out and became a bit dull towards the end with an extremely predictable plot device.
