My Review: “Mr Spencer” by T L Swan

Lady Charlotte Prescott, is wealthy and wrapped in cotton wool by her over- bearing family. Then she meets older, charming, and serial womaniser, Spencer Jones. He’s a total player but he turns himself around for her. When her family finds out, and his past catches up with him, it all goes wrong.

This is a very hot and steamy read with a good supporting cast. His and her friends are as likeable as the main characters. I have to say I like Spencer more than Charlotte. He’s honest to the point of blunt and irreverent. A great example is when he’s complaining to his friends about Charlotte giving her virginity to someone else:

“So, there I was, being all gallant and leaving her fucking hot hymen in place for her future husband, and some other asshole has flown in and stolen it right out from beneath me.”

I got a bit frustrated with Charlotte. She not a great feminist role model. She lets her family rule her life, and she lets Spencer do all sorts for her, such as setting up her business. Then she believes her family over him and doesn’t even allowing him to defend himself. She hides away instead of dealing with it. I was grateful that by the end she found the courage to stand up to her family and grab what she wants with both hands

The book has some good humorous moments too. When she climbs a tree because she suspects her brother is sleeping with her best friend, she gets more than she bargained for and takes a tumble. Hilarious.
