My Review: “The Stopover” by T L Swan

The Miles High Club Book 1

Emily gets upgraded to first class where she meets Jim. They hit it off straight away and end up spending the night together before heading their separate ways.

The chemistry and tension between them is instant. They are already banging by chapter two, but we don’t seen them in real time. There’s a gap and the plot jumps ahead. We’re told they had a great time running up to them having sex, but that’s it. I would have liked to see the first kiss, the romantic gestures, and covert touches.

Despite this initial disappointment, the characters make this worth a read. She’s snarky, he’s grumpy. They argue, they share witty banter, they indulge in dirty talk. What a combo. The sex is hot from the get go. Jim’s totally alpha and bossy, and Emily’s an eager playmate.

A year later, Emily finds out his full name is Jameson Miles, CEO of the international media corporation where she’s just started working. So, he’s her boss’s, boss’s, boss etc.

Emily doesn’t gush over him. She is prickly and squabbles, and I love her. She immediately puts her foot down and refuses to mix business with pleasure. Yes! And guess what? It drives him mad. Excellent! There’s quite a bit of back and forth – does she relent or not – but eventually they agree to be friends with benefits. Of course, it’s not long before feelings become entangled.

The only downside is the writing’s a little distancing with lots of repetitive details and phrasing. It niggles a bit and detracts from the flow, but it’s not too hard to overlook it. It’s the chemistry between Emily and Jameson that kept me reading. There’s also a little mystery sub-plot which blends nicely with the romance, rather than detracting from it.
