My Review: “Worth of a Lady” by Tarah Scott and Sue-Ellen Welfonder

The Marriage Maker Series Book 1 (Novella)

Novellas in their nature are fast-paced and short. I don’t read many because there isn’t much chance to explore the characters and their feelings in depth. As a result, I don’t tend to get the same feels as I do for full length novels. It all feels very rushed, and this was no different.

As Regency romances go, it’s got what you need: reluctant brides and grooms, love at first sight, balls and parties, and a good dose of sisterly love and support.

This is the first in a series following the attempts of Sir Stirling James to find matches for for the younger daughters of the Duke Of Roxburgh, so Stirling can then marry the eldest.

First up is Lady Lucy Hamilton (I’m not sure where she sits in the pecking order of sisters) and Quinn Ramsey, also known as the Devil of Delny for his rakish reputation.

This is a nice set up for the series featuring the efforts of Sir Stirling James who is determined to find husbands for the duke’s daughters by any means necessary.

The premise for the plot is a little debatable, I’m not going to say unbelievable, but it stretches a great deal. For instance, the eldest daughter is set to inherit the ducal estates and the man she marries will become the duke. While women could inherit under certain circumstances, whomever they married did not automatically gain the title. The characters are likeable, but lacking in depth (it’s just too short for more), and there’s a bit of steam thrown in at the end. If you need a quick, lighthearted read to fill a lunch break, this is for you.
