Bianca’s Book Review: “Easy” by Donna Alam

Great Scots Book 1

This was a new to me author, but I doubt I’ll read any more. First, I disliked the jumpy plot. There were lots of wide-open gaps that had me wondering why the story jumped from A to B and what happened in between. Second, it’s let down by lots of spelling errors and missing words.

The main thing that kept me reading was the hot and steamy scenes, including a bit of spanking, voyeurism, and exhibitionism. On top of that, there was plenty of salacious language. The other thing I enjoyed was the good humour. I loved the bit when Sadie was sitting in a cafe, getting sex tips from an old woman. Priceless! As for the romance, it’s lust at first sight that suddenly morphs to love.

Will starts as the hot, charming, rich, playboy doctor, and member of the British aristocracy. A week or so with Sadie, however, and he takes a sudden U-turn from “I’m not worthy because I have a very full (and questionable) sexual history”, to “I love you and I want you to have my babies.” There is no gradual morph for him, it’s one then suddenly the other.

Sadie is feisty, but a bit two-dimensional. She’s the typical American, girl-next-door who is given her sexual awakening by a hot Scot during what she argues is a holiday fling.

I managed to get to the end and then got really frustrated. Will chases Sadie down in an overused dash to the airport scene and joins her on the plane. It felt like a tagged-on rush, as though the author had been told to wrap it up quickly. We don’t even get a proper reconciliation scene, and it was unsatisfying. Instead, we’re told about their reconciliation and engagement in the epilogue.

There’s nothing different about this pair. They’re both cardboard romance characters, and I felt they lacked depth. It’s not a stand-out read. If you like Scottish guys in a book crammed with British humour and plenty of sexy times then you will find both here, but don’t expect deep characterisation.
