My Review of “My Billionaire’s Baby” by Alexa Davis

Hey all, this is my first published book review and I regretted my choice within a few pages, but hey, it’s done now. I can’t help thinking I’m setting myself up for some retribution reviews of my own work. I swear, I’m just being honest.

Morgan is a nurse who wants to settle down and find the right man while under pressure from her mother to have a baby. Terrance is a billionaire playboy who lives to enjoy life and nothing else.  He has no family, his father and brother both died mysteriously and his mother left when he was a child.

They meet when Morgan stops an attack on Terrance by a gang of loan sharks who his father owed money to.  After a one night stand, Morgan discovers she is pregnant while Terrance continues to be threatened by the loan sharks who killled his father and brother. Can they overcome their problems and be together?

While free books are often used as reader magnets I cannot see this book doing anything but repel readers from selecting anything else by this author.  The plot is slow (the MCs don’t even meet until chapter six). The dialogue and writing is clumsy, for example:

“Only this time, it wasn’t possible pregnancy related; it was more to do with the image of the apocalyptic future that lay ahead of me, the making of my own doing.” (Yes, I know it should be possibly, I’m quoting here! It’s not the only thing wrong with the paragraph.)

The sub plot is completely unbelievable. Would a billionaire really go to a loan shark? We never even find out why. There is also a sub plot around Terrance’s mother which is lightly touched upon then resolved in a single paragraph.

There are spelling mistakes and inconsistencies throughout.  At one point Morgan’s name changes from Roache to Rhodes with the turn of a page!  A thorough proof read would help this but it would still not make up for the poor story telling and clumsy dialogue in this novel.  The sex scenes were quite hot but were spoiled by some poor writing.

Unfortunately I cannot say I will want to read anything by this author again. This book was free on iBooks but if the author intends it to act as a reader magnet they really need to get it edited properly. No one wants to struggle to read through the many inconsistencies in this novel, it detracts from the pleasure of reading.
