My Review: “Lord Of Darkness” by Elizabeth Hoyt

Book 5 Maiden Lane Series

At the end of the last book we discovered there is more than one man who masquerades as the Ghost of St Giles. Godric St John is one of them. Godric St John married Lady Margaret Reading after he was blackmailed by her brother, Lord Griffin Reading (book 2).

Lady Margaret married Godric to protect her reputation when she fell pregnant, but her lover was murdered by the Ghost. She lost the baby, but now she vows to avenge her love, and kill the Ghost. She also wants to have another child, and naturally, her husband will need to do the deed.

This is a second chance at love for both characters. Neither wish to betray their lost loves, which makes their eventual fall all the sweeter.

So we have another male lead, a sword swinging, rooftop climbing, avenger of the people of St Giles and a feisty and loveable heroine. We’re on book five now and the characters are getting a bit stale. The plots are becoming a bit formulaic too.

However, it’s still a nice love story with a bit of heat and a decent, if less thrilling, plot. I just didn’t get the same feels as I had with some of the earlier books. I will try the next one, and fingers crossed it will offer something new to the series.
